Ireland
On my first visit it was a poor rural country

1st Visit

30 December 1980 - 5 January 1981

As a member of the Liverpool University Caving club I spent a long week caving in the lake district of County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. However, we stayed in the Dublin University hut on the border in Eire and I discovered Guinness in the local pub. We were conscious of accidently finding an arms dump in a cave close to the border. We did visit Sligo bay; the site the previous year where Lord Mountbatten was blown up. We made a very brief visit to Dublin to drop off a member who had broken his leg when we were caving; that was an adventure!

2nd Visit

2 - 8 July 2016

The family flew from Sydney to Cork via Heathrow. This was Anne's trip where she was looking for a slow paced stroll through classic Ireland. We loved the greeness and slow pace. Julian thought everything was "too old". The highlight was a glorious sunny day where we hiked through the gap of Dunloe.
