My first visit abroad

1st Visit

26 May - 2 June 1973

My first flight (see flight log) and first visit abroad was with Dashwood Road Junior school. We flew to Basle and took the train to Montreux. From this sedate high class resort, which I suspect our elderly headmaster had a penchant for, we took day trips. This included an impressive rack railway journey up to the summit of Rochers de Naye from which we viewed Mont Blanc. We visited the Gruyere cheese factory. A journey in a paddle steamer on Lake Geneva took us to a village and a step over the french border at St. Gingolph. We also visited the Chateau de Chillon. We flew back home from Geneva.

2nd Visit

15 - 28 February 1990

Two fantastic weeks with FOCUS club. Several of us were catered for in chalet by 2 'maids'. In first week in Saas Fee a few of us trekked in the mountains and then in the second week I skied with the group who schooled me with much patience. We also made a day visit to Zeermat and skied under the Materhorn.

3rd Visit

2 - 6 July 1999

With my colleagues planning to fly on the Monday for a meeting with ABB in Baden I decided to make a long weekend of it and visit Sandra. We drove from Zurich, via Frenkendorf, to the superb Berner Oberland and stayed in Grindelwald for 2 nights. Walked to the summit of Faulhorn (2681m) clad in sandals which was rather cold since much snow still remained. I pursuaded Sandra to make a brief visit to Liechtenstein.
