St Peter's cathedral is a magnificent building and contains
one of the world's greatest art works; 'The Pieta' by Michelangelo. The pope was
not at home. The
Inter Rail 1984 tour continued
on through
Italy.
We took our cycles to the Vatican City. Managed to visit
the museum and see the Sistine Chapel. The cycle tour then began in earnest; see
Italy.
Looked at manger and tall Xmas tree in St Peter's square and
preparations being made for Pope's Millennium recital; alas tickets only. On New
Years day 2000 we attended mass at St Peters and watched a procession of bishops &
cardinals. We stayed with Fabio and Rachael; see
Italy.
