From
Gibraltar a bus and
ferry got me to Tangier. It was strange to think that 20 years ago I had
made the same ferry journey
(see what
happened). I expected the infamous fight through hustlers but was
rather disappointed to have a polite dialogue with taxi drivers. An
overnight journey in a 1st class couchette got me to Marrakesh on the
minute. A stroll through the souks and again friendly people; where were
these aggressive hustlers who put off so many from visiting? Meet time for my fellow trekkers. I was expecting
ramblers UK to turn up i.e. 70 year old couples; instead I fell off my
chair in surprise when an Oz beauty called Anne introduced herself as a
fellow trekker. The 10 of us headed off with our guide for an 11 night
trek in the Jebel Sahro. This went wonderfully well; the weather, scenery
and above all the people (and above all Anne) made for some unforgettable
experiences. Seeing how the semi-nomadic Berbers lived was particularly
interesting. After a 'rest' in Marrakesh the return to UK via Malaga
became an adventure in that all ferries were cancelled due to bad weather.
As a result I took the opportunity to visit the spanish territory of
Ceuta.
