Romania
A country which was still finding it's feet after the 1989 revolution

9 - 19 August 1999

The train took Peter & I from Hungary across western Romania and into Transylvania. Brasov was charming and every thing was so cheap. We then booked into a hotel in central Bucharest which was making the most of the eclipse mania. However, it was worth it, watching the Solar Eclipse was a great sight, a unique natual wonder. From there I seperated for some solitude in the Bucegi mountains; my solitude lasted 6 hours. I was joined by Selena; a New Zealander; we travelled together for 5 days. We had a great but wet walk across the mountain range to Dracula's castle. From there we travelled to the Danube Delta, a tranquil nature reserve. Via rowing boats we toured the enormous reed marshes. I returned to Bucharest to meet Pete and his 2 girlfriends, who had flown over from England and travelled with Peter.
