Benin
Home of the Amazons and floating villages

1st Visit

7 - 10 December 2000

A hazzle free border crossing from Togo and then the beautiful beaches of Grand Popo; chilled out in a hammock. Ganvie village is one of several villages which are built in the middle of a lake; a beautiful and tranquil setting. The palace at Abomey was the centre of an empire built on selling slaves to the West and home to the Amazons; the palace housed interesting relics but alas photogarphy was not allowed. From there we entered with apprehension into Nigeria.
