West Africa Tour
Joined a tour well off the tourist track.
The six-week Dragoman overland tour began for me in Accra, Ghana. A challenge: most on board were halfway through a London–Cape Town adventure, so slotting in socially took some doing. From there we pushed on through Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea — countries that saw very few tourists at all.

Joining in Accra
I flew in to join a Dragoman truck already weeks into a much longer London–Cape Town trip — slotting into an established group took a bit of doing.
Rarely-visited ground
Nigeria, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea saw very few Western tourists at the time, and it showed in every encounter along the way.
Six weeks, six countries
Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, covered overland by truck over six demanding weeks.
