Equatorial Guinea
A classic banana republic

1st Visit

6-8 January 2001

An Antonov-24PB flew me from Cameroon to the island of Bioko. The flavour for the country was instantly developed at entry when 'asked' for a bribe to get my passport stamped. Stayed in the capital Malabo. A day trip to Luba, via a taxi on it's last legs, resulted in my arrest. Again a present got me out of this, fortunately the taxi driver and passengers were patient and translated my bad french into spanish. Enroute back to Cameroon stopped and had a drink at Bata airport; the segment of Equatorial Guinea on mainland Africa.
