Anne, Julian & I took a break before Anne returned to work from maternity leave. We had a twin base holiday starting in the capital Noumea. The place was very French i.e. every car and virtually every product was imported from France. Thus, every thing was very expensive. There was little sign of indigenous culture even when we flew to the Loyalty island of Lifou. The best day was when we had an idyllic cove to ourselves; Anne & Julian enjoyed the sand & sea whilst I was delighted by the outstanding snorkelling on the coral reefs. Hopefully, soon this French overseas department will gain independence.
