May be a Little Britain but with majical Lord of the Rings scenery
A business trip consulting for Fisher & Paykal in Auckland. A direct and friendly people with a distinctive accent. On the Saturday I managed to drive for 7 hours around the Coromandel peninsula using the Pacific Coast highway; fantastic scenery. I explored the beautiful Cathedral Cove. On the Sunday I wondered around Auckland.

Our first trip with Jules abroad; the lad did very well. We drove down from Auckland and met up with Lorraine & Mark in Rotorua. We explored the thermals and then headed to Tongariro for a trek. Alas the weather was too poor for trekking but we ended up learning to fly fish. From Wellington sailed to the south island. A beautiful day to enjoy Queen Charlotte Sound. In Kaikoura viewed impressive Sperm whale from the air. Had fantastic fun snorkelling with fur seals. Drove down to Lake Takapo and Mount Cook; treated our selves with a stay at the Hermitage hotel. Rob & Enid arrived to make 7 of us at the luxurious Garden House on Wanaka Lake. Had an enjoyable Xmas with a well executed Xmas day; Julian was inundated with presents. Mark & Lorraine departed whilst the rest of us moved to chill at Rowandale mansion, Banks Peninsula.

The Cotterell family chilled out in Queenstown and wondered how we would fair on the Milford trek. This trek is quoted as being the finest trek in the world. The 4 day trek begins on the shore of lake Te Anau and ends 4 days later after 54km walking at Milford Sound. Day 1 was fine and easy; except the communal hut was too noisy to sleep in. Day 2 was heavy rain and we had to wade through flooded paths. Fortunately, the afternoon was beautiful and we dried out; the heavy packs made it hard work. Day 3 was cloudy and we made the high pass and then had a 1000m descent which was hard on the boys. Day 4 was cloudless and the 18km walk to Milford Sound was a delight. We finished and were proud of the boys; what an experience.
