Tonga

1st Visit

The 4 of us headed for a peaceful Christmas break in the Kingdom of Tonga. It was out of season but full of visitors for the inaugral Reunion weekend; all Tongans from overseas were encouraged to return home for Christmas; a nice idea. We found Tonga a distinct runner up after the Cook Islands, however, the people were indeed friendly (the islands were called the Friendly Islands by Captain Cook). We stayed on the main island, Tongatapu and made day trips to two small islands. Christmas day was spent on Fafa island; eventually a delightful day but initially a bit nerve racking when the boat's captain put a life jacket on!
