Peter Brinkley & I entered China,
the most populous country in the world, very nervously. We had met several
travellers in
Hong Kong who had had a
rough time in China. However, we stepped off the hydrofoil into Guangzhou
(Canton). The next 3 weeks were outstanding, we had a rich time. With
humour and patience China is a wondrous place to travel in. Alas, even in
3 weeks one only grazes the surface of this vast country.
Anne & I enjoyed our brief visit to
Beijing before catching the train to
Mongolia.
I was a bit disappointed by how commercialised things had got since I was
last here; the Forbidden City had lost some of its charm due to several
souvenir shops.
Vietnam
was very similar in this respect. Our cycle ride to the Summer palace was
the highlight of the visit.
