Nicaragua
As students we were inspired by the Sandinista revolution in the 80's; alas it is now the largest but poorest Central American country

1st Visit

3 - 9 November 1998

We entered Nicaragua from Costa Rica and the contrast was staggering. From roads busy with modern cars suddenly we travelled quiet roads passing the odd horse & cart. Hurricane Mitch prevented our traverse to Honduras. We were stranded in Leon for 3 days, all bridges had been destroyed. Eventually, we back tracked to Manuaga via army pontoon bridges and flew to Guatemala.
