'The morning sun gilds these columns of watery smoke with all the glowing colours of double and treble rainbows.' David Livingstone 1865

1st Visit

6 - 11 September 1997

Leaving Harare was a relief because of the underlying dangers of a poor city. The first sight of a massive termite hill caused much interest on this Guerba Africa tour. The old capital of Great Zimbabwe was fairly interesting. Bulawayo was fascinating, we strolled through the lively & friendly suburbs and visited the craft workshops. The first visit to a game reserve was exciting. The gracefulness of the giraffe was a revelation. We were lucky to have a close encounter with White Rhinos. The tour then took us to Botswana.

2nd Visit

1 - 5 October 1997

A major expectation of the Guerba Africa tour was the visit to Victoria Falls. On leaving Botswana we drove directly to the busy tourist town of Victoria Falls. I was privileged to spend some hours virtually on my own admiring the falls from the jungle park; the area is sensational; mainly due to the almost virginal state of the area. White water rafting to it's very extreme resulted in extreme sensations that I would not like to repeat. Experienced my 1st helicopter flight. Returned Home.

3rd Visit

21 - 24 January 2003

From Zambia we crossed the mighty Zambesi river and I returned to Victoria Falls. It was lovely to return here with Anne. We had a sumptuous meal at the Victoria Falls hotel. The economy was in near collaspe so there were few tourists and everything was very cheap. We took a booze cruise on the Zambesi and the next day I departed for South Africa on my own. Anne left for Uganda to do voluntary work.
