The ferry from Italy eventually got us to Patras. Thus the Inter Rail 1981 tour continued. We were suddenly confronted with a strange alphabet which made catching trains quite a challenge. The train took us to Nauplion and to Corinth; the crossing of the canal was spectacular. I explored the Plaka area in Athens on my own and loved the atmosphere, the food was great. We then took the nightmare journey out of Greece which took Braz & I to Yugoslavia.

The ferry from Brindisi took us to the island of Corfu. After exploring the island on mopeds a ferry took us to the mainland.We then headed to Athens.

Arrived from Egypt early in the morning. Wondered Athens in an alcoholic haze. A long truck drive via camping at Kavala took us to Turkey.

On the return from Albania, after completing the Balkans Cycle Tour, I had a stop over in Greece. Since I had just started on Conn Iggulden's new book series on Ancient Greece I decided to visit Marathon. I had these ancient wonders to myself. I then headed home via Singapore.

We were glad to leave the bustling polluted city of Athens and to take a ferry across the Aegean to the island of Samos. From here the next step of the Inter Rail 1984 tour was a ferry to Kusadasi.
