Fern, Braz, Blackie and I spent three weeks cycling through a scorching eastern Europe, from the Alps down to the Black Sea coast. It was wonderful to see how enthusiastically cycling is being embraced right across the region — from Austria and Slovakia down through Serbia and Romania, finishing among the vineyards of Moldova and Transnistria. I peeled off from the lads for a few days in Serbia to visit my cousin Rachael and her husband Fabio, rejoining the group further down the road, and on the very last day I struck out alone across the border for a solo visit to Transnistria.
