Inter Rail 1982
A month starting with Lorraine & Fiona, joined by Braz, Pete & Belger at Lake Balaton — and my first trip behind the Iron Curtain.
Another crazy Inter Rail tour of Europe, initially with girlfriend Fiona and my sister Lorraine. We swung through Hungary to meet Braz, Pete and Belger at Lake Balaton — my first ever crossing behind the Iron Curtain, and a properly eye-opening one. From Venice, Braz and I broke away on our own to explore the Iberian peninsula, ending up in Spain and Portugal.
Our Inter Rail loop through Europe, 18 August – 17 September 1982.
Second one of these — and this time, the stamp of the Iron Curtain in my passport to go with it.
One more month, unlimited trains
Valid 18 August to 17 September 1982, this pass carried a shifting cast of travellers across Europe — starting as three, swelling to six at Lake Balaton, then narrowing back down to two for the run through Spain and Portugal. It also carried me somewhere I’d never been before: behind the Iron Curtain, into Hungary.
